In 2005 I took over the lease of a children's clothing store on the sleepy but quaint island of Stora Essingen in Stockholm. Together with some friends we painted everything white (including the leather couches) and turned the ground level shop into a co-working space where we collectively and individually worked on various projects. We built a music studio, a photo studio, did parties, movie screenings, fashion shows and shared resources and contacts. It was for many of us the first professional working environment we’d ever had. As for naming, we kept the name “Poupon” after the store that had preceded us, as well as their choice of typeface: Comic Sans.
Some of the companies and creators that were active in the space were fashion designer Diana Orving, the guest list managing app Keyflow, music producer / writer Tim Deneve with credits on tracks by Elliphant, Loreen and Zara Larsson just to name a few, and the global e-commerce platform Tictail.
Here's a few blurry photos of the closing party in 2012.
